Volunteer Retires After 22 years, plus at 2EAR FM!
Radio Broadcaster, Cherie Hall calls it a day after tirelessly giving her time to 2EAR FM over the past two decades and more. The airwaves went a little solemn on Sunday 7th of April 2024 when Cherie hung up hear headphones and switched off the microphone after presenting her final show. Tinged with sadness the decision was made for personal reason and for some much needed and deserved “Me time”, but with immense gratitude to Community Radio for giving her this opportunity and for the great experiences. Cherie’s “Country Kick Off” on Saturdays 6 am to 9 am and “Welcome To My World” on Sundays 9 am to 12 noon were a “must listen to” for many who tuned into Community Radio. She was also a very willing and helpful Volunteer at 2EAR FM when not behind the microphone doing her weekly programs and filling in for others, keeping our workplace clean and tidy and stocked with the essentials, from tea, coffee, milk, sugar and other consumables. Cherie was always a fixture at 2EAR FM events and Membership Drives. She served on several Management Committee and also as President. She offered her genuine assistance wherever she could, made many lasting friendships and will be greatly missed by us all at 2EAR FM and by her many listeners. All the best Cherie!! Enjoy your retirement lovely lady and enjoy the weekend sleep ins! |
Visit From the Minister for Communications!
“The Minister for Communications, Hon Michelle Rowland MP planned a trip to Moruya on the 1st of November 2023. Her Media Advisor, Susanna Dunkerley made contact with Kathy Shields to see if it was possible for the Minister to call into the 2EAR FM Moruya Studios for a quick visit and to chat with some of our Volunteers. She also wanted to show her support and appreciation of Community Radio and the work that our Volunteers do on an ongoing bases for our Community.
2EAR FM Volunteers, Kathy Shields, Cherie Hall, Kath Smith, Steve Shields and Tony Jaggers were able to attend. Apology from Pete Diskon.
Minister Rowland was impressed with 2EAR FM’s work, its facilities and the Radio Station’s History in the Eurobodalla Shire. She chatted casually to all and also recorded an interview with Tony Jaggers, which will be aired on 2EAR FM over the coming weeks. The Minister has been visiting Community Radio Stations Nationally. Her next appointment was scheduled to attend the CBAA Conference 2023 in Adelaide South Australia on Friday 3rd of November. “

2EAR FM Membership Drive 9th September 2023
Volunteers from 2EAR FM, Kath Smith, Kathy Shields, Katrina Silby, Simone Thomas, Cherie Hall, Pete Diskon and Steve Shields had a meet and greet with Community members at the Moruya Country Markets. The wind gusts were strong at times, but enthusiasm was not dampened. It is always great to mingle with our Community and to connect with listeners and to make new acquaintances.

2EAR FM had its second Membership drive for the year at Moruya Country Markets on Saturday the 9th of September 2023 and had a lovely surprise when Captain Australia dropped by to say hello.
Captain Australia's BIG WALK in 2021 was a success! He made it all the way to Melbourne, and we raised $165,000 for paediatric cancer research, as well as inspiring people (like yourself?) to superhero up in their day to day lives, to take on profound injustices like kids' cancer.
Now in 2023 he is doing it again, with Caps Big LAP.
If you are seeking to support Captain Australia's BIG LAP (all around Australia for The Kids' Cancer Project), please visit: www.capsbiglap.au
If you're looking for more info about the BIG WALK, you can read a blow by blow account at: www.captainaustralia.online/journal

2EAR FM Membership Drive - Saturday 18th March 2023
2EAR FM Volunteers fronted up again for a second Community event in a week for a Membership Drive at Moruya Markets. It was a glorious day, albeit hot!! Membership Drives have sadly needed to be cancelled over the past years because of a variety of reasons beyond our control! But we are back doing what we enjoy and in top form and always look forward to bringing you friendly Community Broadcasting 24/7!
Volunteer Steve Shields helped with the setting up and the taking down of the “stall”. Thanks Steve! You are always someone that we can rely on to help! Thanks also to fellow 2EAR FM Volunteers Kath Smith, Cherie Hall, Kathy Shields, Pete Diskon, Simone Thomas & Raquel Lawrence who made up the team for this event! EAR Inc.and this great little Community Radio Station 2EAR FM has been operating since 1981 and is going from strength to strength. This is attributed to our wonderful, dedicated Volunteers, Members and Sponsors and the many Community Not-For-Profit Groups that we support and promote. Lots of laughter and chatting, Program Guides were handed out and many members of the Public were happy for the opportunity to chat to us and express their appreciation of 2EAR FM. Members of the Community are always encouraged to participate in the operation of this Radio Station and the various forms can be found on the “Contact Us” page of this website for you to download and send to the Secretary, PO Box 86, Moruya NSW 2537. Not all Members wish to Volunteer, but that is perfectly okay! Your Financial support is appreciated very much!! Just fill in a Membership Form and get it back to us as soon as you can. |
You can also let us know what you think of 2EAR FM by filling in the “Survey” on the “Survey Page” of this website!! We always love to hear from you and to take on board your comments and suggestions!

Can you help us at 2EAR FM to locate our missing flag pole please?
On or around the 9th March someone illegally remove our “Bali Flag” and pole from its location in the paddock at Mullenderre Flat, on the Princes Highway just north of the Moruya Bridge!! The flag pole was attached to the trailer that houses the 2EAR FM Promotional Signage!!
The Flag pole is a flexible, telescopic carbon fibre pole around 4 metres in length and is used to display those long thin wobbly fabric signs that you often see around the area! If anyone is aware of who has taken our property or has any information regarding this issue you are asked to phone the Office on 4474 5445 and leave a message please!! Or you can email [email protected] Reward offered. No questions asked! |

Happy 41st Birthday 2EAR FM
2EAR FM celebrates 41 years in Community Radio, continually serving this wonderful Community! The intense workload from its beginnings in 1981 from truly talented and dedicated people to set the station up and running is always remembered and recognised as a great achievement and the reason why we are still a great little Community Radio Station, going from strength to strength. This spurs us on to continue to honour that Legacy and to do our very best at all times. Thank you to all of our wonderful Presenters and Volunteers, our listeners, supporters, members and Sponsors who stick with us and give us the enthusiasm to continue this valued Community Service. In another 41 years most of us will not be here, but wouldn’t it be great if Community Radio was! Happy 41st Birthday 2EAR FM!! |
Great News for the Community & for 2EAR FM!
Community Radio Station, 2EAR FM (EAR Inc.) has been granted their Licence to broadcast again for the next five years from 4th December 2021. EAR Inc. Secretary, Kathy Shields compiled and submitted the lengthy application document to the Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA) in November 2020. The applications are thoroughly assessed by the ACMA Team & can take up to twelve months to be finalized by them. This is Kathy’s third successful Licence Application for 2EAR FM. As well as presenting programs on 2EAR FM, she keeps herself busy in our Community. Her hard work has paid off as she has also been successful with several Grant Applications acquiring Grant Funding for 2EAR FM as well as for the Moruya Antique Tractor & Machinery Association (MATAMA). MATAMA lost their Headquarters and Display Shed in the Original Gold Rush Colony which housed all of their engines, tools and equipment during the dreadful Black Summer Bushfires that tore through Mogo on 31st December 2019. |
Our Brand New Antenna is up & running
as at 3.45 PM on Thursday the 5th of June
as at 3.45 PM on Thursday the 5th of June
....................now at last we can all celebrate at 2EAR FM and look towards a much brighter future and an improved listening experience for our Community! As you will no doubt recall, 2EAR's old wooden pole antenna was totally destroyed during the devastating bush fires on the 31/12/2019!! When the dust settled and our future requirements for our Mt Wandera facility assessed, EAR Inc's Secretary, Kathy Shields got stuck into finding a solution and set herself to working closely with the CBF to secure a "Quick Response Grant" and a quick response it was!!! Kathy submitted the final Grant Application on the 5/2/2020 and the CBF notified her of that Grant Application's success on 11/2/2020!! There in, followed months of coordination and strategic planning prior to our brand new Antenna taking its pride of place on top of Mt Wandera. Sincere thanks go to the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) who once again showed their support by generously granting 2EAR FM the necessary funds to purchase and install the new antenna. Bush Fires in the future should not pose a risk to our Mt Wandera equipment with this replacement pole being metallic and the electrical supply underground and fire proofed to our "Hut" which houses our valuable Transmission equipment. It was a monumental task to organize and complete and once again our Radio Station friend and our Technician, Ian Clifford of IAC Communications Pty Ltd from Kiama NSW came to our rescue and ably took up the challenge!! It was a monumental task. Ian was fortunate to be able to utilize local contractors to assist with various parts of the job. A huge "THANK YOU" to all involved in this project. ... To Ian Clifford, the CBF, Kathy Shields, Steve Shields and our local Concrete and Electricial Teams. A job excellently done!! |
THE CBF- PARTNERS OF COMMUNITY RADIO IN TIMES OF NEED
Breaking News
On the 11th of February 2020 2EAR FM received some much appreciated Great News!! This followed the total destruction of 2EAR FM’s Main Link Antenna on Mt Wandera by bush fires on the 31st of December 2019. 2 EAR FM was seeking financial assistance to purchase and install a new antenna and to re-establish their service from Moruya to Mt Wandera. This is a huge and expensive operation for any Community Radio Station to have to deal with!
The Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) came to the rescue by providing an opportunity for 2EAR FM to apply for a “Quick Response Support Grant”!! Secretary Kathy Shields set to work immediately and submitted the comprehensive Grant application on the 4th of February 2020! Notification of the success of that grant came on the 11th of February 2020!!
The Grants Team at the CBF have been remarkable too in viewing, assessing and processing the Grant application in such a short period of time …. We are all extremely grateful to both the CBF and to Kathy.
Tracee Hutchison, Partnership & Projects Manager from the CBF is travelling from Melbourne to pay a visit to 2EAR FM ON Thursday 20th of February to offer further support, find out more about their fire/grant experiences and to offer encouragement to this great Community Radio Station.
2EAR FM says “THANK YOU” TO OUR COMMUNITY FOR BEING SO PATIENT AND UNDERSTANDING DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME! THERE’S MORE GOOD NEWS THOUGH- ON THE 18/2/2020 2EAR FM TECHNICIAN IAN CLIFFORD TRAVELLED TO MT WANDERA AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO RE-ESTABLISH A TEMPORARY LINK BETWEEN MORUYA AND MT WANDERA. THE OUTPUT IS STILL NOT AT FULL CAPACITY, BUT 2EAR FM IS ONCE AGAIN BROADCASTING TO AN EVEN LARGER AREA!!
THE NEW ANTENNA NEEDS TO BE PURPOSE BUILT AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRANSPORTED TO MT WANDERA TO COMPLETE THE TASK, BUT BE ASSURED THAT ALL AT 2EAR FM ARE KEEN TO BE BACK TO NORMAL JUST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!

On the 30th of December 2019 Volunteer RFS firefighter Sam McPaul, was tragically killed while on duty at the Green Valley fire ground east of Albury NSW.

His young wife Megan is expecting their first child in May 2020 and is now facing parenthood without Sam!
Since that devastating event, many people have kindly asked how they can help Sam’s family. The NSW RFS has created a dedicated account to collect donations. All funds received will be distributed to Megan to provide for their baby’s future.

We're transmitting again.
Our Technical Team has been working tirelessly to restore our transmission since its failure at around 8.45 am on 31/12/2019
We are very pleased to announce that 2EAR FM is now broadcasting its regular programs via a transmitter temporarily installed by our Technician and support team at our Studios at 9 Rose Street Mouya as at 3.30 PM on the 9th of January 2020.
The output is at a reduced level, due to the logistics and this will remain the case until we are able to acquire a new antenna for the Mt Wandera installation and until power is restored to the Mt Wandera facility.
The devastation to equipment on Mt Wandera is severe.(see below)
We thank you for your understanding during this difficult period.
You can also listen to our programs via live Streaming at www.2earfm.weebly.com or on your various Apps.

New Years Eve 2019
This image shows the before and after image of the 2EAR FM Main Transmit & Link tower on Mt Wandera after the fires.
The after image was originally mistaken for being ABC equipment, but is unfortunately 2EAR FM's Main Transmit & Link tower
As soon as the area can safely be accessed, the damage will be assessed and repaired when we are able.
We will unfortunately be off air for the duration until repairs can be made.

WELL DONE ALICE
On the 28th of October 2019 2EAR FM received the following great news from the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia ….
“The 2019 CBAA Community Radio Award Winners National Features and Documentary Series:
The CWA and the F Word, Alice Ansara (2EAR FM)”
Alice was successful in participating in the CBAA National Features and Documentary Series supported by Community Radio Station, 2EAR FM with her half hour radio documentary 'The CWA and the F Word' – pulled together not without a lot of blood, sweat, tears and extra childcare... and got it over the deadline a month ago.
From Alice’s pen…”On Saturday night, 26th of October the Community Broadcasting Association finished their conference in Melbourne with a Gala dinner and awards ceremony. I couldn’t make it even though I would have loved to - but I switched it on the web to stream it at the very moment that they were reading out the award category for best feature documentary -- and whaddya know - they announced that Alice Ansara and Community Radio Station 2EAR FM Moruya had won!! Woo-hoo! What a buzz and totally unexpected!”
Let’s bring you up to date as to how Alice got involved in the project. It started when no sooner had her 2EAR Trainer and mentor, Kathy Shields cajoled her into having a show on our wonderful community radio station, Alice saw an EOI for a the CBAA National Features and Documentaries Series which is an annual showcase of work by new and emerging Community radio producers - 7 or 8 are chosen after you pitch your idea to the CBAA and then the successful candidates undergo intensive training and are supplied with equipment and all importantly a mentor while they make an ambitious half hour radio documentary!
Alice’s pitch was to focus on the Moruya Country Women's Association and how and if modern feminism could sit side by side with the traditional values espoused by the CWA. Alice is really grateful to the women at the CWA Moruya branch for letting her in and talking to her, accepting her as a member and letting her push a microphone into people’s faces….. She was hopeful to have made a half hour show that is more complex than your average 'scones and tea' view of the organisation.
The mentor Alice was assigned was none other than veteran ABC radio journalist and documentary maker Sharon Davis - someone she had long admired and wanted to work with so she was beyond excited to find out she was going to be mentoring her!! Sharon strongly encouraged Alice to write herself into the feature which she ambivalently did, but which in the end made for a more humorous take on the themes.
In addition to the support of 2EAR FM, Alice also found the training exceptional and the support of the CBAA just wonderful…. The Community Media Training Organization–Giordana, Andrew and Hannah –bloody legends! The Moruya branch of the CWA fantastic and welcoming.
She feels she now has so many more skills that she is able to bring to our community radio and she is honoured to have had the opportunity to do the program - much less win the national features award.
From Alice’s pen “Anyhow - I'm chuffed to have won and I'd like to thank 2EAR FM for their support, especially Kathy Shields and Tony Jaggers. The feature is to be released on the CBAA network in November and aired on 2EAR FM…. WE WON!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS to you Alice on a job well done!!
Alice presents her program “In The Ladies Lounge” on 2EAR FM on Sundays 12 noon to 2pm

Three Successful Grants for 2EAR FM !!
Over the past twelve months 2EAR FM has been successful in achieving three separate Grants, the results mainly due to the efforts of one of their Volunteers, Kathy Shields. Kathy was the Grant Writer for each of these three submissions and concedes that all it took was to have a vision and then to focus on a successful outcome and of course the countless hours spent on each application. She recommends that other Community Radio Station take up the "Grants Challenge", as she firmly believes that as on reflection it was indeed totally worth the effort. Kathy also thanks her husband Steve for his understanding and support during those "tough times"
EAR Inc.would like to sincerely thank and acknowledge the three Organizations who supported the Grant Applications,
Lori Kravos and the Team at the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF)
NSW State Government
Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) through their Tackling Tough Times Together Program!
All of these projects would have been difficult to achieve without their generosity and support.
The CBF provided EAR Inc. with funds to replace two of their Computers in Studio A and two new Computers in the Office.
Thanks also to Jason's PC Services of Moruya who was able to source and installed those Computers for them!
The NSW Government provided EAR Inc. with funds to enlarge their Community Radio Station building's front door to accommodate wheelchair access, a concrete pathway for easier aged and disability access and a concrete slab and a metal awning over the slab. These improvements to the 9 Rose Street, Moruya Building not only improved disability access, but also greatly enhanced the ambience and practicality of the front entrance. Thanks to the services of a local building company , Nardusso Building Services for a job well done!
The FRRR/Tackling Tough Times Together provided EAR Inc. with funds to install twenty two solar panels and an Inverter at
9 Rose Street, Moruya. Supplied and installed by another local small business Troy Nuggent from South Coast Energy, Moruya! As you can imagine, the day to day cost of electricity supply is fairly daunting for a Community Radio Station, so any credits generated will go a long way to assist 2EAR FM financially in the future and to free up funds for other Community projects. Being able to embrace and support the use of renewable energy is also a huge bonus!
2EAR FM Officially Thank the Moruya Country Markets Committee
We recently featured a story outlining the generous donation of $9,000 towards a new Console for 2EAR FM. This donation came from the Moruya Country Markets Committee of 2018.
On Thursday the 11th of October 2018, Market Committee President, Harold Nash and their long standing Secretary Kay Nash visited Studio A at 9 Rose Street to view first hand their much appreciated donation to 2EAR FM. EAR Inc. President, Steve Shields, Vice President, Tony Jaggers and Kathy Shields (photographer & info organizer) were on hand to greet Kay & Harold and to officially thank the Moruya Country Markets Committee for this wonderful support of this Community Radio Station. |
Kay and Harold also had an impromptu on air interview with Ros Allen. Kay outlined the work of the Moruya Country Markets Committee, the changes over the years to the markets and the many people and organization that they have been able to assist financially over the past 30 plus years of the markets existence.
The Moruya Country Markets is situated in Riverside Park and operates EVERY Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM. Do yourself a favour and drop in next time you are in town OR make a special trip!! You won't be disappointed!!
A huge thank you also was extended to Tony Jaggers for his communication with the Markets Committee and his efforts in securing this gift for 2EAR FM.

New Elan Hawk 12 Console
Exciting times and gratitude were abound on the 5th & 6th of September 2018 as 2EAR FM had its brand new Elan Hawk 12 Console installed!! A result of the Moruya Markets Committee of 2018's generous monetary gift earlier this year to the Community Radio Station, allowing them to purchase the much needed and appreciated broadcasting console for their Studio A. A huge thank you from us all!!!
Well done to all of those involved by consistently staying on the "case", seeing the job through to the end. The console was a little long winded in arriving and being installed, as it had to be purpose built from scratch then shipped by road from Western Australia to its new home in Moruya. |
" Moruya Country Markets Committee Helps Out Its Community Yet Again!"
"Recently when Community Radio Station, 2EAR FM found itself in the position of having to replace one of its aging broadcasting consoles, the Moruya Markets Committee had no hesitation in offering them $9,000 towards the purchase and installation of the unit.
On Saturday the 16th of June 2018 this generosity was officially acknowledged by 2EAR FM during an Outdoor Broadcast/ Membership Drive at the Markets. Although the wind blew ferociously, nothing could dampen the pride or the gratitude of the occasion.
2EAR FM"s Vice President Tony Jaggers spoke with the Moruya Markets Secretary Kay Nash live to air at around 9.30 am. Kay also mentioned some of the other community projects in the Eurobodalla Shire that Moruya Markets are involved in and support.

2EAR FM's First Official Outdoor Broadcast!
These are exciting times for our Community Radio Station as we now are able to conduct successfully, a Live Outdoor Broadcast!
Sunday the 21st of April 2017 at the RSPCA's "Million Paws Walk" Fundraiser in beautiful Riverside Park, Moruya was the day to celebrate and be proud of our achievements in this field of broadcasting . A perfect opportunity to show our skills whilst supporting the Eurobodalla Branch of the RSPCA, who is also a member and supporter of EAR Inc. It was a fabulous morning with perfect weather and a good attendance of happy dogs and their owners!
A huge thank you to the 2EAR FM Team and in particular to Pete Edmonds and Cris McPaul for their hard work, expertise and consistency in seeing this project through from its very beginnings and opening up a whole new area of Community involvement for the Eurobodalla Shire's Community Groups. Well Done.
Thank you also to those who helped out on the day, or just showed their support of their fellow Volunteers. Pete Edmonds, Cherie Hall and Tory Parker conducted the broadcast from the event while Steve Shields provided reliable back up as the "anchor man" at the Radio Station. Thank you as well to John & Joy Griffin, Kathy Shields and Ian Johnson for their support on the day. A perfect example of what team work can achieve!
Groups interested in Outdoor Broadcasting their event can contact the Station on 4474 5445.
A JOB WELL DONE !!
2EAR FM Volunteers and Community helpers alike joined the "Working Bee" to erect a carport at the rear of the Community Radio Station's building on the 18th, 19th & 22nd of May. The carport was the initiative of EAR Inc. President, Steve Shields and sanctioned by the rest of Management Committee. It is hoped to provide shelter when entering the building, for the less agile Volunteer Presenters during inclement weather. A huge thanks to Steve, Barry Coles, Rob Paterson ( our Website Manager) Peter Lewis, (Rob's friend visiting from Victoria) Neil McIntosh and Pete Edmonds. A great job guys and certainly appreciated by all at 2EAR FM. Thanks also to Kathy and Cris for their assistance with the project. |
Saturday the 11th of March, marked the first Social Day for 2017 to thank our Volunteers for their efforts & commitments to Community Radio. The Management Committee provided a delicious BBQ in the 9 Rose Street grounds. All of those in attendance had a wonderful afternoon catching up with old friends and meeting new Volunteers for the first time. Several Volunteers offered their apologies, because of prior commitments elsewhere. Save the date for the next Social event, Friday the 11th of August 2017. Don't miss this one!! |

The Waifs pay Texas Dave a visit on air at 2EAR FM
On Wednesday the 9th of November 2016 Vikki Thorn and Josh Cunningham took time out from their busy schedules to drop into the Community Radio Station 2EAR FM and have a long chat with Texas Dave and to share some awesome music with the Listeners. Both Vikki and Josh played "Joshua" Guitars made by the very talented Josh.
The Waifs are currently together in Turlinjah, working on their brand new album to be released soon. Donna was unable to be at the Studio because of other duties as she is also the "designated Chef" for the group. Both Vicki and Josh sang together and individually and the response to their beautiful harmonies and soul-felt lyrics was phenomenal as usual, Vikki still sounding as beautiful and professional as ever. Josh calls Australia home currently and lives in Turlijah, Donna in Western Australia & Vickki Utah, USof A so getting together is no mean feat. Texas Dave has formed a strong and lasting relationship with the Waifs over the years. He is in his thirtieth year at 2EAR FM and since 2000 Texas & Jenni have brought the Waifs to Moruya for live concerts six times. |

He spent 40 years in commercial and community radio and TV sport, including on air at 2EC hosting the morning show for 8 years, retiring from full time employment in April 2016. Soon after he had a health issue which required major surgery.
"Hence there was a break of a few months and I’m on the long road to recovery" said Disko.
Pete comes to us with a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience. His career in Radio has covered both Commercial and Community Radio Broadcasting. Amongst his jobs was 4 years as Manager and Program Director at CHY-FM in Coffs Harbour, a youth based community station covering the Coffs Coast.
Now he is wanting to put some of his broadcast experience back into the broadcast industry and sees Community Radio as a good opportunity to do this. With that in mind, he chose to volunteer his time to do a “magazine” based show weekly on 2EAR FM on Mondays between 1pm and 4pm and on Braidwood 2BRW FM on Wednesday from 10am till 1pm. As a volunteer he is hoping to be able to assist both stations in a number of areas.
" Once my health is back on track I will increase my involvement and I will be joining a CBAA training team in the new year" he added.

On April 8th 2016 at 4pm Jeff & Peter made the final connection and Eureka,2EAR FM was "Live Streaming"- A huge step forward in broadcasting. Every picture tells a story, as you will note by the smiles and sighs of relief on the "boys" faces!

2EAR FM had a promotional stall and a membership drive at the
Moruya Markets on Saturday the 19th of March. It proved to be very successful with seven applications for membership to the Association received, a presenter or two amongst them and a big stack of programs taken by community members interested to listen in to the Radio Station. Again thank you to Steve for setting up and taking down the display and to Kathy, Cris, Maggie, George, Sue, Barry, Robyn, Cherie, John & Joy who all manned the stall during the day. |

A letter to Texas Dave
Back in May 2015 the ARTZILLA Workability Art Crew put in a drawing of Clara's Dream, it was just an idea back then.
At the beginning of August, workshops started at "Bay Removals" big shed on the highway, thanks, so much thanks, to Bruce for that fabulous work space. Our crew went there every Wednesday, right from the start and as if drawing with cane, by the end of October she was finished, CLARA'S DREAM had become a reality.
This has been one of the biggest community events the crew have been involved in and one of the best. Every week the shed was full of people from across the community, all working on their own dream, but at the same time, ready to lend a hand to each other wherever possible.
For over five years now ARTZILLA Crew have been meeting at Art Central every Wednesday morning creating wonderful Art.
Steve begins a pick up in the Workability van around 8 am it finishes at 10, 2 hours on the road from Batemans Bay, Caseys Beach to Bodalla and back to Moruya. For as long as we can remember, on those trips, we have tuned into Texas Dave's - "The Lone Star Radio Show" on Community Radio, 2EAR FM.
Clara gets a big smile on her face when the music comes on and says "I like that song".
This year we pulled the van over one morning and called Texas Dave to let him know that we listen to him and how much his program delights us and brightens our day. We also told him how much Clara is delighted by the music he plays and about the project CLARA'S DREAM, Artzilla's floating lanterns display project for RIVERLIGHTS DREAMING in this years GRANITE TOWN FESTIVAL
From that day Texas Dave has regularly put on a song for Clara and the crew. I'm not sure if you know just how much delight that brings into Clara's world, in fact to us all it's smiles all round as we float down the highway to the great music Texas Dave puts over the airways at 2EAR FM ... it just makes the best start to our day
So TEXAS DAVE, we thank you, we thank you from deep in our hearts, we thank you for your support with Clara's Dream and we thank you because you bring joy to our world
Kindest regards and Lotts'a Love
from the ARTZILLA Workability Art Crew

Just after 8am on Thursday 19th of June thousands of Listeners were tuned in to 2EAR FM and "The Lone Star Radio Show" with Presenter, Texas Dave McGarry, to listen to his much anticipated interview with the legendary, Josh Cunningham of "The Waifs" fame, one of Australia's most loved Bands. Little would they have imagined that they were about to be treated to such a uniquely wonderful and almost two hour encounter with Josh and Texas Dave. The Waifs came to prominence in 2003 with the release of the song "London Still". They toured with Bob Dylan both in the USA and his Australian Tour.
Josh is a born and bred, Moruya boy who has never forgotten his lifelong connection to the area and his gratitude to all of those who have helped him along the way and he paid special tribute to Jenni and Dave McGarry, who brought The Waifs to Moruya several times and to sold out concerts and for the many other World Class Entertainers over a twenty year period, ensuring great music reached our area.
The Waifs have just completed a well received mini Australian Tour, the first in three years. In spite of the downer, when Waifs band member, Donna fractured her ankle just prior to the show in Sydney, the show went on as planned with Donna belting out her best from a chair for the entire tour. True professionals!! Of the other band members, sisters, Vikki Thorn and Donna Simpson, Vikki lives in Utah, USA and Donna has moved back to Western Australia. Josh met Vikki and Donna back in 1992 and it has been an exciting ride for them since. Josh has intentions to move back to Moruya with his wife so we can expect to be up close and personal with this talented couple in the not too distant future.
This is the first time in eighteen months that Josh has been home and intends to be around for at least a few more months. As "he said, there is no place like home". His family have always encouraged him to delve in practical things which he attributes to his success in life. For the past 10 years or so he has been making his own guitars; his motto, "keep it simple to make it special". He is also working on the renovations of his Eurobodalla Shire home.
Josh thrilled the listeners by singing live to air three of the many songs that he has written, "Dark Highway" ~ a true life story that he wrote whilst being stuck on the Kings Highway, with his broken down Toyota Hiace Van, "Beryl Jenkins" and no one stopping to help; "Since I've Been Around" a song that he finished witting in the 2EAR Fm studios way back in 1999, just before his last interview with Texas Dave, about Moruya and another popular Waifs number "Lighthouse".
The future for the Waifs?
Family life for them all tends to take over, but never fear because The Waifs are hear to stay! They are talking about getting together in November 2014 and possibly recording a new album in 2015. More Regional Tours are also on the agenda. And of "Beryl Jenkins", she too is safe and sound thanks to their Number One Fan, Sarah Groube. Sarah won the van in a competition and the van is now in safe keeping at her Dad, Tony's place!!

Have you heard the joyful "twang" of a banjo whilst doing your weekly shopping in Moruya? Chances are they were the uplifting sounds from Frank Bliss' 5 string Fender Deluxe Banjo! For the past three years Frank has been busking in the Moruya CBD to the delight of customers. He originally came from Lismore, northern NSW, went to High School there and then on to University. He also did gigs regularly in Nimbin. Moving to Moruya three years ago to be closer to his family, was the perfect move for Frank.
He has a twenty year history in the music Industry, playing Bass Guitar and later, Tenor Sax with "Dunhill Blues". Six years ago he decided to take up playing the Banjo and has been honing his skills with that instrument ever since.
Texas Dave, who has "christened" him "Banjo Frank", invited BF to the 2ear FM studios on Thursday 19th of December to share Franks talents with his Radio audience.

Local Singer/ Songwriter, Ronald Callaghan (Callo) dropped by the the Radio Station on Thursday 12th of December and spent some time interacting with Texas Dave and the Lone Star Radio Show's Listeners. Callo has been living in Sale, Victoria over the past years and is returning to Moruya, where he has a thirty year history with music and entertainment. He has brought with him his "trusty guitar", handmade locally from wood sourced from Mogo. "It's the best guitar that I have ever played" said Callo. |
He hopes to continue spreading the word with his brilliant and moving songwriting skills and his desire is to concentrate on the young people of this area and to unearth the wealth of talent out there - to bring people together as one. Callo is also working on a CD of his songs, due to be released soon. |
A regular feature on Texas Dave's "Lone Star Radio Show" on Thursdays 7 to 10am, is the support and promotion of local artists and live- to -air performances. On Thursday 5th of December Dave showcased the talents of local musician, singer, songwriter, PEV who has been singing since the age of 10 years old. PEV has called Moruya his home for the past 15 years, originally living in Melbourne. He still plays the Gibson guitar that he purchased back in 1983 when he was 18. Having performed live at various venues in the area for some time, six months ago he decided that it was time to put down a CD of his songs. The entire CD was produced in PEV's caravan with this talented artist , writing, performing and mixing the entire production himself. The result, a great CD "About Time". A job well done!

Farewell.
On Saturday the 9th of November we said goodbye to one of our "treasures", Kimberley Tickner who is moving away from the area with her Family. Her final program was on Saturday the 16th of November and no doubt, there was not a dry eye in the place! For eight years Kimberley has presented a program on 2ear FM on a Saturday afternoon from 3pm to 6pm, commencing in 2006 and hardly missing a show in all of that time. Some of us watched her grow from a little 14 year old girl, into a lovely young lady. Kimberley will be greatly missed by her many listeners in the Eurobodalla Shire and by her many fellow Presenters at 2ear FM. She is hoping to continue presenting on Community Radio when she settles in Katoomba NSW. Needless to say, Kimberley is really looking forward to her new and exciting adventure.
Best wishes go to Kimberley and her Family from all of us.

Bay Country Music Concert
On Saturday 21st of September a fantastic concert took place at the Batemans Bay Soldier’s Club.
2ear FM Presenter Cherie Hall did a great job with the initial planning for the event and interviewed the various Entertainers on “Country Kick Off”, leading up to the occasion. Congratulations Cherie!! She was ably assisted by Kathy Shields & Phil Morrison, with promotion.
The show kicked off at 2 O’clock in the afternoon and what a fabulous concert it was!! An afternoon of Family entertainment, featuring some of Australia’s Top Country Music Artists.
The moderate, but very vocal and appreciative crowd were spell-bound at the depth of the talent that they were witnessing! You couldn’t hear a pin drop during the performances, but as the final bars of each and every song materialized, the applause and cheering almost lifted the roof off the Club.
Lindsay Butler & Shaza Leigh were accompanied by the very talented Justin Standley’s vocals and guitar, Peggy Gilchrist on piano & Ken Grills on drums, as The Butler Show Band.
There, in support of 2ear FM’s involvement were Presenters Cherie Hall, Cris McPaul, Evelyn Miles & Kathy & Steve Shields.
It was a treat to listen to such great Australian Country Music talent in our region. Lindsay said that they would definitely return again next year. So if you missed out this year, don’t let the same thing happen next time around!

Narooma Oyster Festival
Saturday 4th of May 2013,
Community radio station 2ear FM again took part in the annual Narooma Oyster Festival on the beautiful shores of the Wagonga Inlet, Narooma.
It was a very successful day for all concerned, with dozens of community groups & community suppliers of local products and services participating.
2ear FM's Tim Burke from the program 'Tim's Spare Room' did a stellar job as MC for the entertainment section, working all day long without a break. Peter Edmonds, Kathy Shields & Steve Shields manned the Eurobodalla Live 107.5 stand, meeting and greeting those interested in community radio and asking them to participate in their questionnaire. The wind nearly blew everyone away, but this did not detract form the wonderful, fun filled day that the Narooma Oyster Festival provided.

I have been a Presenter at 2ear FM since 1996 and present Roots, Rock & Blues each Monday from 10am to 1pm.
A child of the 50’s, I have grown up surrounded by music from a huge range of artists. My real love is Blues and I see its influence on so much music that we listen to. I have had the opportunity during my life to attend many live performances by incredible artists, both at Blues Festivals and Rock Concerts.
Music is always a part of my daily life, with music playing either at home or in my car. I am constantly searching for music to engage my audience through the presentation of artists and songs that evoke memories and past experiences. I am constantly delighted to receive phone calls from listeners expressing their pleasure at the music they hear during my programme. This opportunity to present the music that the audience wants to hear is one of the great appeals to Community Radio participation.
There is so much good music out there and only so many hours to present it.
Another feature during my program is a special presentation during the school terms, for the children from Moruya Public School from about 12.10pm, lasting from 15 to 30 minutes. These enthusiastic little people present their school’s news, story reading and other personal school activities and achievements. We all look forward to their participation each week and hope one day to catch a few of them in the “net” as future presenters at 2ear FM. I hope to be presenting at 2ear FM for many years to come.
Happy 31st Birthday 2ear FM and many more for you too!

2ear FM Presenter, Sandie Bye. 13 years service
I initially became involved with 2ear FM when I was invited to join the community radio by the then President, the late John Fearnley, but didn’t take up the offer until 2001, having to honour other volunteer commitments with the Sydney Olympic Games & Adidas Tennis.
After three quick training sessions I commenced my programme, “Spinnin’ With Sandie” on Tuesday mornings from 10am to 12 noon, born out of inspiration from the DJs of the 50s & 60s spinning their vinyls. “Rob E G’s Hawaiian Tattoo” starts the program and I am happy to say, that this is with Rob E G’s blessing. “Spinnin’ With Sandie” always includes a lot of listener participation with regular quizzes and star spots and I never lose sight of those people from the past and the sharing of their love of nostalgic music from their youth and the pleasure they have always received from community radio.
I also present “Brekkie With The Girl”, Fridays 7am to 10am on alternate weeks, sharing the spot with fellow presenter Kathy Shields and have also over the time assisted with Sponsorships, the occasional Interview and Voice-overs for various promotions.
Music has always been a love of mine, having been involved musically with dancing as a four year old, then ice skating, choreography and concerts. I find it a privilege to be able to involve the listener through my programme and am honoured to receive phone calls, cards and words of appreciation and encouragement.
All Presenters donate their time, music and knowledge culminating in many hours of preparation and in my case, researching and preparing material manually from my own music collection.
I enjoy my time at 2ear FM or I guess I would not still be there after so many years. Like all Volunteer organizations one can expect ups and downs, when dealing with so many different personalities. 2ear FM is one of the fortunate ones who are progressing in the right direction. We have a very hard working and dedicated Management Committee, backed up by a team of willing helpers, as well as a firm Sponsorship and Membership base. Community participation on all levels is important to us at 2ear FM and we have had some great events involving our local communities.
The listeners say that they love us because we are natural. They feel comfortable enough to phone in and to brighten their day with a quick chat. The future path for Community Radio is unsure, but I am sure that changes can take place whilst we still maintain our “quaintness of bygone days”.
Happy 31st Birthday 2ear FM and may there be many more to come!

Tony Jaggers (TJ) & his Experiences of the Beginnings of EAR Inc. TJ has 24 years service.
I first heard about E.A.R. (as it was first named back around 1982) when a group of characters set the play in motion at a meeting at the home of Warren Hutchings…some of the early instigators who should be mentioned (and my apologies to those I’ve unintentionally overlooked) were Syd Mckenzie, Anthony Hopkins, Geoff Carter, Gwen Pearman and Gerald Horey. At the time, I was pretty tied up with my musical ventures and it was due to these ventures that I and another member of my band, The Flying Zucchini Bros first entered the original studios of EAR for an on air interview for a gig we were doing to raise funds for the radio station.
The initial fundraising for the proposed station was assisted by the publication of EAR to EAR magazine, with paid advertising, a cover price and local content making it a worthwhile venture…I recollect I used to write the occasional article for the magazine.
The first broadcasts (possibly on a provisional test licence) were done the hard way…A prefab studio was transported to the top of Mt Wandera (the TX site) a windswept, primitive spot indeed and it was from there that E.A.R. (Eurobodalla Access Radio), possibly the only station named after an orifice, began to spread its word.
The original building in Page St was earmarked for destruction (sadly, as it was an historic old home) to make way for services for the elderly, later to become the Dr McKay Community Centre. The then committee obtained a lease on land next to the Cemetery in Moruya on Mantle Hill south of town and a “temporary” studio, office and meeting room were constructed, 99% voluntarily under the overseeing of Syd McKenzie (after whom the building was named). Another key player, Anthony Hopkins, was all this time building an array of broadcast equipment, mostly from scratch and scrounged parts all consolidated with liberal doses of Araldite and Matt Black Paint (Insiders joke…..you had to be there). This “temporary building” after many changes and improvements is now a comfortable and reasonably technically sound broadcast studio.
Circa 1989 I was approached by my daughters primary school to record some musical items of the kids for broadcast on air at EAR… long story short, I delivered the tape to the new building (my first visit) and sometimes it seems I never left. Within 2 weeks it was announced I had a voice (and a face) for radio so I began a 5am routine of scouring and compiling, taping and reading an hourly news bulletin using an amazing bit of technology on an old black & white TV called teletext…..how much easier would it be today!!!!
I signed up for a tafe course instigated by Geoff Carter and began my own show in the evenings called “Lost in the 60s “ a title still very applicable to me today. A tireless worker for the station, Peter Hancock, took a break as Station Co-ordinator and I was given the position on a stipend of $80 per week. Unfortunately I lived just around the corner so the term “On Call” really rang true.
I continued as Co-ordinator , the station was doing well with Sponsorship and payments from 2KY to re-broadcast the Sat and Wednesday Racing ..not quite kosher but undoubtable the biggest audience grabber as an in house survey result showed up….so well did we rate that the local commercial AM station cried foul”.
With revenue up and a proactive Committee elected I was promoted to station manager and put on a decent wage for the 16 hours a day I was doing. Our Sponsorship sales team was increased and given a 25% commission and David Allen, a professional broadcaster from ACT was taken on as producer…the stations profile was lifted and income earned via promoting musical events with acts such as Bruce Mathiske, Gyan, the Gadflys and Tim Gaze. Things looked good.
Then came another committee change and more plans to push ahead but the bubble had burst, the costs of running the station and the staff outstripped our income. ..After a steady decline I voluntarily resigned as paid Manager, wrote off a major percentage of wages owed and staff was reduced down to one sales person on commission. Some critics blamed me for the downturn but I stress that I was employed by a Management Committee….they made the policies and I simply worked, very hard, to try to carry out those duties.
It was now 10 years since I first walked into the station and now I was back as a voluntary co-ordinator!
On the Upside…..over that 10 years, 5 of our youth presenters were employed by Commercial and ABC Radio and still enjoy careers that stemmed from our training.
We won many awards for service to the Community, Rotary Awards for Excellence and my proudest moment was taking the stage at Parliament House to receive the top Media Award for Children’s Week (thanks to some foresight in utilising a then unknown band called “The Wiggles”).
I feel we played a huge role in the community in times of flood and fire, our various musical programs gave exposure to a wide range of genres not usually accessible in Regional NSW, we entertained and we informed with interviews from the Rev Fred Nile to the Doug Anthony All stars…it doesn’t get more diverse than that. Diversity is still an optimum consideration at 2ear FM.
I am still involved thanks to taking over the Blues Program “Mojos and Jellyrolls” on Wednesdays from 4.30 to 6.30pm weekly.www.tonyjaggers.com/mojosandjellyrolls.html Over the past 5 years I’ve had some time out from the station, but I keep coming back as it’s a hobby that jells well with my occupation as a working musician.
The station itself is on another rise thanks to the work of the recent committees, the studios are constantly being maintained and upgraded and the environment has gone from a bit rough around the edges to very comfortable.
2EARFM has been going 31 years I believe….I’m sure it will still be going in some form or another in another 31.

HAPPY 31st Birthday 2ear FM!
My name is Texas Dave McGarry and I have presented my “Texas Deluxe” weekly radio show on 2ear FM since 1986. It is the longest running Texas Music radio program anywhere outside of The Lone Star State.
My passion is anything Texas; the culture, history and their incredible musicians. My mission in life is to promote that famous state and the music that originates from the Blues, Rock n’ Roll, Country, Folk and of course Tex –Mex.
I was Commissioned Honorary Texan Status in 1994, by Governor Ann W Richards for my services to Texas Music.
My wife Jenni and I started to promote “Texas Music Concerts Down-Under” in our hometown of Moruya back in 1990. We continued for the next 20 years, until our final promotion in 2010. We brought some of the greatest musicians ever including Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams, Guy Clark, Flaco Jimenez, Kinky Friedman, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock, Joe Ely, The Flatlanders, Tom Russell and many more.
Moruya was known as “The Texas Music Town Down- Under”.
Through 2ear FM I have been able to share my passion and thousands of people not only attended our wonderful concerts, but thousands more have tuned in regularly, some say “religiously” to “The Church of Texas Music”.
In 2012 I added another weekly program “The Lone star Morning Show”. It is gaining a huge response from the listeners too.
After 27 years on 2ear FM I am having more fun than ever. I love what I do and hope to continue for as long as the neighbouring Moruya Graveyard (right next door) doesn’t need me… Ha ha!
Congratulations & a Happy 31st Birthday 2earFM.
