Treasured Long time Volunteer, Kathy Shields, Retires from 2EAR FM.
After almost nineteen years of dedication and volunteering for EAR Inc. and 2EAR FM Kathy has made the difficult decision to retire from Volunteering for her much loved and respected Community Radio Station 2EAR FM. Her last day of presenting a program was the 17th December 2024, but has a couple of obligations to fulfil before she steps away for good. The new EAR Inc. Management Committee has sanctioned her to advise and assist them for a smooth transition for the Radio Station and she has agreed to do this in the short term.
Since becoming a member in April of 2006 Kathy has worked tirelessly for the radio station to assist in making it a strong, enjoyable and respectful place to be. She was a novice in all things Broadcasting, but quickly learnt the ropes from her peers, by listening and respecting other peoples knowledge, expertise and hard work.
Over that entire period Kathy regularly presented two programs per week, along with multiple fill ins for others when needed. Her tasks covered such things as Administration, Technical, Production in regard to Playlists and seeking Sponsorships for EAR Inc. and assisting with Treasury. She served several terms on Management Committees, as vice President and Secretary. She enjoyed the tasks that she undertook to help 2EAR FM and her colleagues. Training new presenters was also one of her loves, training a total of sixty new presenters on 2EAR FM since 2014!
She had a good and professional relationship with our Governing Bodies, the ACMA and the CBAA and successfully submitted the last three 5 Year Broadcasting Licences to the ACMA. As the major Grants Writer for EAR Inc. she was also successful in obtaining Grants for new Studio and Office PCs, Solar Panels, Improvement to the facade and disability access at 9 Rose Street and the brand new Broadcasting Antenna at Mt Wandera, that was totally destroyed in the Black summer Bush Fires of 2019.
Kathy was proactively involved in Membership Drives, Outdoor Broadcasting, helping setting up Streaming for the 2EAR FM Programs in 2016, attendances at the Eurobodalla Show, successful Open Days and Fundraisers, Social Events for volunteers, Christmas decorations and treats and treats for Volunteers throughout the year, Photographing presenters and occasions. Basically anything that needed doing, was never a trouble or chore for her. In January of 2015 Kathy was awarded the Moruya & District Australia Day Citizen of the Year from Rotary and the Lions Club for her efforts at 2EAR FM and several other Community Organizations.
She worked closely with our Website Manager Rob Paterson in keeping this 2EAR FM Website up to date and promoted the work of others at the station, enjoying his efficiency, kindness and professionalism in Managing the 2EAR FM Website.

Valued Volunteer Retires
After almost five years of proactive Volunteering at EAR Inc. and on 2EAR FM, Kath Smith made the decision to call it a day on the 26th November 2024. Since joining the ranks as a presenter in December 2019, she regularly presented her program on a Tuesday afternoon on 2EAR FM “ A Little Bit of Everything”. Kath also made herself available to cover for other presenters who were unavailable. Her love for her music and the Community always shone through.
As well as presenting she served on three Management Committees and was a willing participant at Membership Drives to promote this Community Radio Station. Her expertise, advice and professionalism in Administration and Management was invaluable, always offering her help in any way that she could. Kath will be greatly missed by the Radio Station, her 2EAR FM friends and her many listeners. We wish her all of the very best in whatever is in store for her. Maybe some well earnt R&R!

Volunteer Retires After 22 years, plus at 2EAR FM!
Radio Broadcaster, Cherie Hall calls it a day after tirelessly giving her time to 2EAR FM over the past two decades and more. The airwaves went a little solemn on Sunday 7th of April 2024 when Cherie hung up hear headphones and switched off the microphone after presenting her final show. Tinged with sadness the decision was made for personal reason and for some much needed and deserved “Me time”, but with immense gratitude to Community Radio for giving her this opportunity and for the great experiences. Cherie’s “Country Kick Off” on Saturdays 6 am to 9 am and “Welcome To My World” on Sundays 9 am to 12 noon were a “must listen to” for many who tuned into Community Radio. She was also a very willing and helpful Volunteer at 2EAR FM when not behind the microphone doing her weekly programs and filling in for others, keeping our workplace clean and tidy and stocked with the essentials, from tea, coffee, milk, sugar and other consumables. Cherie was always a fixture at 2EAR FM events and Membership Drives. She served on several Management Committee and also as President. She offered her genuine assistance wherever she could, made many lasting friendships and will be greatly missed by us all at 2EAR FM and by her many listeners. All the best Cherie!! Enjoy your retirement lovely lady and enjoy the weekend sleep ins! |
